Aloha from Woodruff Road
If you try to eat healthy, even in a time crunch, here’s some good news: Poke Bros. opened its fourth Upstate location last weekend at 1143 Woodruff Road in the same strip center as Tom’s BBQ. Other locations are in Greenville near the Pelham Road and I-85 interchange, in Simpsonville, and Easley. This little chain offering poké at the speed of fast food but with customizable options started in Ohio in 2016 and has grown to a dozen locations now.
New Orleans brunch for a cause
Taste of the Upstate, April 22 from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at ZEN, brings together a few things Greenville’s pretty good at — jazz and gospel music and brunch — and it’s for a great cause. Proceeds from the event support Loaves & Fishes food rescue and delivery efforts. Participating restaurants include Smoke on the Water, Roost, Biscuit Head, Local Cue, Wild Ace Pizza & Pub, and Moe’s Original Bar B Que. Live music will be performed by the Greenville Jazz Collective and St. Anthony’s Men’s Choir. Tickets are $40. Visit loavesandfishesgreenville.com.
They’ll Waitr so you don’t have to
A third restaurant delivery service, Waitr, is entering the Greenville market to compete with Bite Squad and GrubHub. Waitr launches March 29 with a growing number of downtown restaurants already signed up — Gringo’s Cantina, Sushi Murasaki, Green Lettuce USA, Luna Rosa Gelato Café, and Trio – A Brick Oven Café. Menu prices are the same on the app as they are at the restaurants, and the $5 flat fee is the same no matter the distance from the restaurant or whether you order one meal or 20. Bonus: You can use the app for carryout orders, too, and get alerted at the exact time when your food is ready for pickup, for free. To meet the anticipated demand, the company plans to hire 200 people in the area. Check out waitrapp.com.
