The goal was to create an old-school style soda bar, reminiscent of that “Happy Days” era when everyone would gather at the counter in cardigan sweaters and poodle skirts.
Just update wardrobe and swap out the soda for coffee, and that’s the vision behind the Sandbar, a new coffee counter that’s just opened in the Palmetto Proper retail outlet, located at 3225 N. Pleasantburg Drive in the Cherrydale Point Shopping Center.
The Sandbar offers coffee beverages made from locally roasted beans, featuring standards like drip coffee and cold brew, as well as more elaborate concoctions like cookies ‘n’ cream frappes and frozen hot chocolate.
Palmetto Proper owner Meredith Jackson said she wanted the bar to enhance the store’s goal to create a place where people can just hang out with friends.
“It brings home that small-town vibe where patrons aren’t just customers, they are friends,” Jackson said.
Palmetto Proper, which opened its doors in 2019, is a retail outlet centered around trendy Southern gifts and apparel. Jackson said that with the recent effects of COVID-19 on all area businesses, the opportunity was ripe for expanding its services to the Greenville area to adapt to the changing times.
Jackson said expanding wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community.
“We are blessed that South Carolina loves to support local businesses and thankful to be a part of it,” she said.
