Mill Village Farms is partnering with FoodShareSC to present a virtual culinary concert on Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. with Grammy Award-winning Charleston-based band Ranky Tanky and a Gullah cooking lesson featuring celebrity chef Sallie Ann Robinson live from Haig Point on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina.
Money from this virtual event will be used to provide fresh and healthy food to be distributed throughout the state.
“This event is so much more unique,” said Mill Village Farms executive director Dan Weidenbenner. “We are partnering with nine different nonprofits and distributing meals statewide. Our goal is to raise $250,000 [and] to have 1,000 people watching and participating from across the state.”
Attendees for this virtual dinner event will need to register by Oct. 21. They will pick up a box at a designated location containing everything needed for a three-course Gullah-Geechee meal for two people. The first and third courses will be prepared, while the ingredients for the main course will be provided for each person to cook with Robinson and fellow chefs Shaun Garcia and Taylor Griffin. Each box also includes a wine and cocktail pairing.
Mill Village Farms has previously held two other virtual dinner events and raised over $150,000 to help feed families across South Carolina.
