Greenville’s downtown farmer’s market is opening for its 18th season under a new name: the TD Essential Market.
Launching Saturday, June 6, the modified market will offer fresh and local grocery items from 81 vendors, including eight new vendors, but no artisans, music or entertainment.
Each week, 42 vendors will be on site with vegetables, fruits, eggs, meats, cheese and breads. The market will also have a rotation of specialty products such as honey, pasta, grits, granola, canned foods, pressed juices and sauces, city officials said.
The market’s entrances and exits will be located on McBee Avenue. For public safety, only a limited number of shoppers will be allowed inside the market at a time, according to Tara Eaker, event administrator for the city.
Hand washing stations will be located at the market entrances, and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the event site, Eaker said. Face masks are recommended, but not required.
The city has released the following guidelines for the TD Essential Market:
- Make a shopping list using the online list of participating vendors
- Watch for physical cues such as tape, cones and signs to maintain social distance
- Shop with your eyes only; vendors will handle items
- Use a credit card or exact change when possible
The market, which is presented by Prisma Health, will run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays from June 6 through October 31 (excluding October 10). Free parking is available in the lot next to Grill Marks, courtesy of Soby’s.
