Atlanta-based Portrait Coffee will take over Methodical Coffee’s location at The Commons, 147 Wellborn St., on Sept. 12 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Coffee bar takeovers are a common marketing strategy in the coffee world,” said Methodical Coffee co-owner Marco Suarez. “We really wanted to support this business, we wanted to help it succeed and help it grow. I liked the quality of their product, too. We also wanted to expose Greenville to their company and to support black-owned coffee businesses. There are very few black-owned coffee businesses, it’s just rare in the U.S. We got to know them through talking about the coffee business and our conversations just led to this happening. They are fans of Methodical Coffee as well.”
Suarez first learned about Portrait Coffee through their Kickstarter campaign earlier this year.
“I was moved by their video and by their mission and reached out to them to tell them if there was anything Methodical Coffee could do to support them, to please let us know,” he said. “Since then, we have chatted on the phone and over text.”
Portrait Coffee’s mission is to alter the public image of specialty coffee to include people of color.
Portrait’s coffee will also be on drip and available for purchase at Methodical’s downtown Greenville and Landmark locations on the same day.
