Green Laundry Lounge, set to open in late summer or early autumn in the Palms at Brushy Creek at 3120 Brushy Creek Road, will combine laundromat services with all the amenities of a high-end cafe.
With culinary creations from the James Beard Award-nominated team behind Oak Hill Cafe and coffee from Due South Coffee Roasters, the laundromat will offer hyper local ingredients — even as the cuisine itself hails from other countries and cultures.
Last week, Green Laundry Lounge owner Jay Desai and Oak Hill Cafe chef David Porras met inside Oak Hill Cafe to offer a glimpse at some of the traditional Indian flavors that will drive the menu.
“We could have done the menu by ourselves, made some baked goods, things like salads and grain bowls. Those can be done easily,” Desai said. “But our main priority is quality, and that’s why we wanted that genuine Oak Hill Cafe touch combined with fusion Indian spices and flavors.”
Here’s a look at some of the dishes they whipped up.
Potato + peas pickle with fenugreek, mustard oil, ginger and pea shoots
Cucumber raita with yogurt, mint, cilantro and olive oil.
Obulato tartlet with egg, mustard seed, clove, cinnamon and cardamom
Moong salad with lentils, pomegranate, bell pepper and tomato
Croissant turnover, served over fresh evergreen sprig with wildflowers
Grilled oyster mushroom with yogurt, achari, kalonji, chickpea, garam masala and red chili paste
Dakhani paneer with tomato, kashimiri, fennel and ginger
Goan fish curry with coconut, cumin, green chillies and onion.
