Duke Energy’s World of Energy education center at Oconee Nuclear Station has announced the three winning entries in its annual Festival of Trees display.
Duke Energy presented a total of $5,000 to the three winning local nonprofit organizations during a check presentation Jan. 6 at the World of Energy.
In first place, Making My Mark received $2,500 for a tree decorated by Century 21 Hometown Realtors. In second place, the Pilot Club of Seneca received $1,500 for its entry. In third place, Collins Children’s Home received $1,000 for it entry, which was decorated by the Cosmopolitan Woman’s Club.
The Festival of Trees is a free, public display of more than 20 decorated trees. While the display was open, members of the public voted on their favorite trees.
This year, more than 2,000 votes were cast by visitors.
“We have built great relationships with our local nonprofits through this event,” said Duke Energy spokesperson Mikayla Kreuzberger. “We have so many deserving organizations — the voting contest really pulls at our visitors heartstrings.”
