Southern Hills Lavender is hosting a pick-your-own lavender event this Saturday, June 4. Originally expected as a crowd of 100, the event has grown to almost 3,000 individuals “attending” on Facebook. The increased interest has transformed this event into a small festival.
Tim and Mary Bergstrom of Greer started Southern Hills Lavender in 2014. This is their first U-Pick, and they hope to turn it into an annual event. “We want to educate people on how to grow lavender and the benefits it has,” says Mary.
Lavender bunches will range from $2 to $10, depending on the size. The festival will host speakers and hold demonstrations on the uses of lavender, and there will be a kids’ area with lavender-themed activities.
Automatic Taco, Highway 301 Food Truck and Pink Mama’s Ice Cream will all have food trucks on site. Highway 301 will host a cooking demonstration that showcases the use of lavender in one of their available dishes. Live performances by Peyton O’Kelly, Young Appalachian Musicians and the Sweet Potato Pie Kids will be from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m.
Instead of an admissions fee, Southern Hills asks that you bring a food pantry item for donation to the Greer Relief and Resources Agency.
The event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 2132 Edwards Lake Road in Greer. For everyone’s safety, animals are not permitted.
