The Spinks Family Foundation announced Aug. 11 it has donated $250,000 toward one of three pedestrian bridges over the Reedy River in Unity Park.
The 110-foot, prefabricated Spinks Bridge sits near the west boundary of the park, spanning the river between Welborn Commons and businesses on the south side of the river.

“Stewart Spinks, founder of Spinx Company, is known for his generous spirit, and the Spinks Family Foundation was established to extend this generosity to support organizations that share our passion for helping children,” said Spinx Company CEO Steve Spinks. “Spinx Company is all about making lives easier and this pedestrian bridge near the center of Unity Park will do just that. It is especially rewarding since this investment is in the community where SPINX was founded and continues to call home.”
Stewart Spinks, together with his wife, Martha, cut ribbon on the new bridge the morning of Aug. 11.
“Martha and I are honored to have this opportunity,” Spinks said. “We came from meager beginnings, Martha and I did, and we’re pleased to enjoy the collegial community that we have here … it’s just a pleasure to be able to do the bridge and to do it to pull people together.”
The bridge will open when the 60-acre park opens in the spring of 2022.
