As part of OCD Awareness week, there will be a Million Steps for OCD Walk at BridgeWay Station in Mauldin Oct. 10, starting at 12:30 p.m.
The walk is part of a series of events to raise awareness about obsessive compulsive disorder being organized by OCD South Carolina. The events are geared toward dispelling myths about OCD, breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness and increasing understanding of the disorder and the treatments available.
OCD is a serious mental health condition characterized by obsessions — unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images or urges — and compulsions, repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in response. The disorder can significantly affect school, work, relationships and everyday life, but effective, evidence-based treatment is available.
