Greenville Connects, a coalition of Greenville County businesses, residents and nonprofits working to increase investments in Greenville County’s transit system, has released an economic impact study of Greenlink’s Transit Development Plan.
The study, which was commissioned by Greenville Connects and conducted in conjunction with Joey Von Nessen, a research economist with the University of South Carolina, found that if the $352 million, 10-year TDP expansion plan was fully implemented, it could generate an increase of up to $2 billion in annual countywide economic activity and up to 10,000 new jobs.
“This study proves what we’ve long heard from residents,” said Greenville Connects Executive Director Erin Predmore. “Increasing transit options in the county creates more job opportunities that were once unavailable due to long commute times and unreliable transportation. While the completion of this study marks an important milestone in educating the public on the power of transit, our work is not over. We must continue working to ensure the Transit Development Plan has the funding to unlock $2 billion in total economic activity annually.”
