New Horizon Family Health Services, a nonprofit providing affordable health care, recently launched a new mobile medical team.
A medical provider and support staff will provide primary care services to people in need in a 35-foot mobile unit that features two exam rooms. The services offered include preventative care, minor illness treatments and chronic-condition management.
Regina Mitchell, NHFHS president and chief executive officer, said the new mobile team will help expand access to health care and related services.
“Many people in our community face challenges in accessing affordable health care, which may include lack of transportation to a doctor’s office,” Mitchell said. “By partnering with local organizations, NHFHS can help remove barriers to care and improve the health of the communities we serve.”
The partners for the mobile team include:
- A Child’s Haven, a nonprofit that treats children with developmental delays as a result of limited resources, abuse or neglect
- The Phoenix Center, an addiction treatment and rehabilitation center offering outpatient services
- Serenity Village, an extension of the Phoenix Center, with a residential treatment center for women, young mothers and their children
- SHARE Head Start, which provides local services for children from birth through age 5, with programs that emphasize health, nutrition and parental involvement
The Mobile Medical Team joins NHFHS’ two existing mobile units: the Health Care for the Homeless Program Mobile Medical Unit and the New Horizon Family Dental Care Mobile Unit.
