Meals on Wheels of Greenville has received a grant of $2,500 to support its Pet Food Program, which provides dog and cat food to homebound people who are unable to purchase pet food in the store.
The Pet Food program began in 2003 and currently provides 129 Meals on Wheels clients with pet food. The program started when volunteers for Meals on Wheels noticed clients were sharing meals with their pets. For many homebound individuals, their pets serve as close companions, providing support and comfort. Knowing this, volunteers began providing pet food to ensure their clients would be able to keep their animals.
The grant, funded by Meals on Wheels America, will go towards constructing shelving for pet food storage areas and purchasing more pet food apart from donated products.
Meals on Wheels Greenville delivers 1,500 meals to clients within Greenville County. For more information about Meals on Wheels Greenville, visit their website.
