On July 14, voters in Mauldin will head to the polls to decide who will sit in the vacant Seat Three on Mauldin City Council. The seat was vacated in January when current mayor Terry Merritt was sworn into office.
The candidates for the seat are John Mazzaro, James Kennedy and Jason Kraeling. One of these men must receive 50% plus one of the total votes casts or a runoff election will occur on July 28, said Greenville County Elections Director Conway Belangia.
In addition, since the City Council is elected at large and does not have wards, candidates for a council seat may come from anywhere within the city of Mauldin, and all Mauldin citizens who are eligible to vote may cast a ballot in this election, said Mauldin municipal clerk Cindy Miller.
The winner of the election will serve on Mauldin city council until December 31, 2021.
Polling place changes for the Mauldin special election:
- Conestee and Ranch Creek will vote at Mauldin First Baptist Church, 150 S. Main St., Mauldin
- BridgeFork will vote at Mauldin United Methodist Church, 100 E. Butler Road, Mauldin
