Laurens Electric Cooperative is taking applications until Feb. 5 to sponsor four high school sophomores and juniors to attend a statewide Virtual Youth Experience June 21-25.
During the experience, participating students will hear from public figures, learn about cooperatives and compete for $5,000 college scholarships.
“We support this experience as part of our commitment to the young people in our service area, and to educate high school students about American history and government and about the history and business principles of electric cooperatives,” said Laurens Electric Cooperative President and CEO J. David Wasson.
Eligible high school students, including those who do not receive power from Laurens Electric, wishing to participate in the energy cooperative’s annual contest will also need to secure a reference and go through an interview process.
After the co-op officials judge the entrants, four students will be awarded the opportunity to attend the virtual event.
