Greenville Women Giving, a local women’s collective giving organization, awarded $517,495 in grant funding to six Greenville County nonprofits at its Grants Awards Ceremony on May 19.
The 2022 grant recipients are:
- Conestee Foundation: Lake Conestee Nature Preserve – $100,000 over two years.
- Greenville Literacy Association – $76,000 over two years.
- Mental Health America of Greenville County – $76,495.
- Phillis Wheatley Association – $65,000.
- Rebuild Upstate – $100,000 over two years.

The recipients were chosen from 70 grant applications submitted to GWG. Each grant request must range from $50,000 to $100,000 and the applicant must provide services in Greenville County.
“Success in today’s job market requires an array of skills ranging from reading and math to specialized vocational skills, said Greenville Literacy Association executive director John Jaraczewski. “Sadly, thousands of adults in our area lack these skills and remain underemployed and economically disadvantaged. Thanks to Greenville Women Giving, we have the ability to expand a role that is critical to building a pipeline from education to employment and improving the welfare of our students and their families for generations to come.”
To qualify, a nonprofit must also meet a need in at least one of GWG’s five focus areas:
- Arts.
- Environment.
- Education.
- Health.
- Human services.
Since its inception in 2006, GWG has awarded 140 grants to 87 nonprofits for a collective total of more than $7.6 million.
“It is so exciting to see that what began as a simple idea of collaboration, getting a handful of women together to make their charitable giving go farther, has turned into one of the United States’ largest and most successful women’s collective organizations in just 16 years,” said GWG co-chair Beverly Ward. “By working together, we are building a better quality of life for all residents of Greenville County.”
