The survey, which took place from Sept. 15-19 and had 1,010 participants, found three trends redefining travel in 2021, said Airbnb in a release.
The first trend was people were using Airbnb to try out new cities by staying for two weeks or longer before relocating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Then the survey found participants were opting for more staycation-type domestic travel, where they would be able to easily drive to the destination. Some of the top spots for staycations include the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee or Palm Springs, California.
Finally, surveyors learned participants were seeking to stay in unique housing such as treehouses, barns, cycladic houses, domes and yurts when exploring housing options. The study also saw higher demand for entire homes rather than apartments as well as guests opting for cabins and cottages instead of villas and townhouses when booking their 2021 trips.
