Greenville Humane Society has installed a public microchip scanner just outside its facility at 305 Airport Road.
It is open 24-7 and allows stray animals to be scanned for a microchip that could reunite chipped pets with owners. The device includes step-by-step instructions and Upstate-based resources for lost pets. The station is a partnership with Nexgard Plus, Cleveland Park Animal Hospitals and Elanco. It was installed by students from Donaldson Career Center.

Greenville Humane Society CEO Rachel Delport gave a demonstration Sept. 3 on how to use the scanner. She said it is important to scan the animal’s whole body because the microchips can migrate.
“They can come straight here, use this microchip scanner and be able to be a part of the solution and finding owners and getting them reunited,” Delport said.
