The Greenville Housing Authority secured seven housing assistance vouchers for Greenville Together: A Home for All.
Greenville Together is a community-driven effort to provide immediate aid and work toward long-term prevention of homelessness. The mainstream vouchers will be used for the initiative’s housing surge program, which will rapidly rehouse individuals experiencing homelessness.
The housing surge will begin in mid-June. The Greenville Housing Authority, which administers federal funds for housing assistance, is a partner for the program’s launch. Terril Bates, CEO of the Greenville Housing Authority, said the agency is proud to be at the forefront of this effort.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s mainstream voucher program provides housing assistance to non-elderly people with disabilities. The vouchers will allow the applicant to select a private market unit that meets payment and inspection standards.
The housing surge will be completed using several strategies, including a “street-to-home approach.” This method will move chronically homeless and medically fragile individuals directly into permanent supportive housing. Greenville Together aims to help 80 unsheltered individuals within the city of Greenville find permanent housing by the end of 2025.
