Duke Energy and its World of Energy education center announced that from Nov. 30 through Jan. 8, 2021, they will host the 2020 Festival of Trees display and voting contest virtually.
The event is normally held in the World of Energy education lobby in Seneca.
“Now more than ever, many nonprofits need community support,” Duke Energy spokesperson Mikayla Kreuzberger said. “We’re excited to host the Festival of Trees virtually so that our nonprofits get the recognition they deserve and possibly widen their reach to a broader audience.”
Local businesses, nonprofit groups and civic organizations recently decorated trees provided by the World of Energy in honor of a specific nonprofit. This year’s nonprofits include:
- JoAnn Johnson Media Foundation
- Making My Mark
- Friends of Lake Keowee Society
- Grace’s Closet
- Meals on Wheels-Anderson
- Oconee Christian Academy
- Oconee Community Theatre
- Oconee History Museum
- Oconee Humane Society
- C. Vets Care Foundation
- Tamassee DAR School
- The Pilot Club of Seneca
- The Potter’s House
Once the website is live on Nov. 30, viewers may browse the online photo display of uniquely decorated trees as well as review the decorators’ information and their selected nonprofits. Then each viewer may pick their favorite tree, but they may vote only once.
The top three trees with the most online votes will receive $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively for their selected nonprofit.
