In recognition and support of the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign and #WearBlueDay, which brings awareness to human trafficking, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System will be illuminating the Risen Christ statues on its Downtown, Eastside and Cancer Center campuses in blue lights Jan. 11 during the evening hours.
“Human Trafficking abounds when we fail to see the face of Christ in our brothers and sisters,” said Dr. Alex Garvey, Bon Secours St. Francis senior vice president of mission. “By dehumanizing, we can then treat people as objects and not as God intended. Women and children bear this suffering more than others.”
In addition, the Bon Secours Wellness Arena will be illuminated with blue lights and have digital signage to explain the significance of this effort.
This is the first year any local Bon Secours property has used blue lights. In previous years, the health system’s staff has been asked to wear blue or pin a blue ribbon on their clothes to show support for this initiative.
