Bon Secours St. Francis Health System’s annual Medication Take Back Day was a success in disposing of controlled or illicit substances. Volunteers collected over 191 pounds of medication and an additional 9 pounds of controlled substances over a 4-hour period.
The Take Back Day took place at St. Francis Millennium on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, held in conjunction with National Drug Take Back Day, encourages Americans to clean out their medicine cabinets in order to stave misuse or abuse of controlled prescription drugs.
Jennifer Robinson, Public Relations and Communications Manager at Bon Secours St. Francis, said many of the millions who misuse prescription drugs obtain them from the homes of family and friends.
Events like Medication Take Back Day allow pills to be properly disposed of so they won’t contaminate soil and water systems.
