The Greer Commission of Public Works and Greer Police Department hosted a drive-thru drug takeback event on Oct. 24, during which they collected a total of 78 pounds of unused and/or expired pills or patches earmarked now for safe disposal.
In addition to the unused medications dropped off at the event, both organizations collected 175 pounds of unused pills and patches from a dropbox location. Both of these collections combined totaled 253 pounds of medicine gathered to be taken to Columbia, South Carolina, where it will be burned at high temperatures.
For those who were unable to attend the event, permanent drop boxes will be available 24/7 for any unused pet or human pills at the Greer Police Department at 102 S. Main St. in Greer or at Greer Memorial Hospital at 830 S. Buncombe Road in Greer.
