When Ellis Crigler married her husband Alex just over a decade ago, she knew real estate came with the territory. “We’re always talking about it, always in it,” Ellis says.

Alex is the oldest grandchild of the late C. Dan Joyner, who founded a real estate company under the same name in 1964. Alex grew up in the business, working for his father, David, while in high school, and as an adult he has sold and leased commercial property and most recently was the BIC of the property management company. After six years with the company’s Augusta Road office Ellis, has recently joined The Chet & Beth Smith Group.

The Criglers are now embarking on a new adventure in the residential sales arena, as they prepare to take over the Chet & Beth Smith Group when the powerhouse duo retires.

Alex says he and Ellis are honored not only to have the opportunity to carry on his grandfather’s real estate legacy, but also to carry the torch for the legendary team that is The Chet & Beth Smith Group.

“When I was approached by Chet to train under him and keep his well-oiled machine running, it was a no-brainer. Our business model is unlike any other in the Upstate in real estate.” Alex says. “Over the last 25 years they’ve literally seen everything and adapted effortlessly to the changing market. Having them trust me with something so important to them is what drives me every day.”

Alex and Ellis are the busy parents of three young children, Bo (7), Mary Ellis (5), and Reed (3), as well as their two 10-year-old golden retrievers, Carter and Sugar. Ellis looks forward to the day their children can join them in the family business.

“At this point in our lives – with three young children – we thought we could build on what’s already in place and provide somewhere maybe our kids would want to work some day,” she says.

Alex and Ellis volunteer at several places in Greenville, including Meals on Wheels, the Gower Estates Neighborhood Association, 40 Men 4 Change, Power Guys & Women in Pink with Susan G. Komen, Greenville Little League, Sara Collins Elementary, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the YMCA Metro Board.
