Since 2002, The Family Effect has served as the philanthropic partner of the Phoenix Center, helping ensure individuals recovering from substance use disorders have access to the resources and support they need to rebuild their lives and their families’ futures.
The official 501(c)(3) nonprofit exists to provide funding beyond grants and other traditional sources of support. Last year alone, The Family Effect raised more than $2.5 million to advance the Phoenix Center’s mission, with much of that funding supporting ongoing renovations at Serenity Place, the organization’s residential treatment facility for pregnant women and mothers with young children.
Operating with its own board and staff support from the Phoenix Center, The Family Effect’s Community Engagement Team and all of its volunteers show the community the value of recovery. “Everything The Family Effect does is designed to strengthen families,” Director of Community Investment Amanda Davis said. “Our volunteers and staff are always looking at what’s working and finding ways to grow.”
The Phoenix Center has served Greenville County for more than 50 years as the community’s local provider of prevention and treatment services for substance use disorders. Serving over 30,000 community members per year through various programs, the organization champions each client’s journey through an individualized pathway to recovery.
One of the most visible examples of The Family Effect’s impact can be found at Serenity Place. Renovations are creating larger bedrooms that can accommodate cribs and toddler beds while expanding communal living areas. After completing intensive residential treatment, many women transition to the LOTUS program, recovery houses that allow them to continue building independence while pursuing employment, furthering their education and preparing for life on their own.
“Every improvement, every partnership and every dollar raised creates opportunities for women and their children to build healthier futures together,” Davis said.
By supporting the work of the Phoenix Center, The Family Effect is healing families, providing hope and eliminating addiction in our community.
