GJ: How were you contacted to create this piece?
SM: I was contacted through the Auro Hotels art consultation team.
GJ: What is the inspiration for this piece?
SM: It was meant to bring a funky and colorful vibe to the Zen-like rooftop courtyard bar.
GJ: What materials did you use to create this piece?
SM: I used latex and acrylic paints.
GJ: How long did it take to create and what was the creation process like?
SM: The design process was completed in stages throughout 2020. Eva Magill-Oliver, Sharron Koch at Auro Hotels and I met and discussed inspiration and brainstormed design and content. The images were collaboratively created through sketches and digital drawings before being painted on site. The physical paintings were completed over the course of three weeks.
GJ: What is your favorite part of the piece and why?
SM: My favorite part of this piece is the colors. They are a great balance between calming, cool colors and energetic, bold hues.
GJ: When was it completed?
SM: Mid-December 2020.
It is located at the AC Hotel by Marriott Greenville at 315 S. Main St.
