Artist: Vicki Morris
How were you contacted to create this piece?
The mural is the creative collaboration of the building owners, Joe and Vicki Morris.
What is the inspiration for this piece?
The mural was inspired by the “Cruising Critters” kitchen towel design by Kathleen Stemler of Carson City, Nevada, and I am the artist/muralist who created and painted the customized, bigger-than-life version with Kathleen’s blessing and permission.
What type of paint did you use to create the mural?
I used all acrylic paints and permanent markers from Hobby Lobby and Suburban Paint in Greenville.
How long did it take to create and what was the creation process like?
Deciding on a design this large and working with the artist regarding our design customization took several months, but the actual painting process time took one focused week.
What is your favorite part of the piece and why?
It’s a toss-up between the happy boho VW love bus and our black cocker spaniel, Bear, in the driver’s seat. Seeing both as we come around the curve southwest bound on East Main Street in Taylors just makes me smile.
The mural was completed June 11, 2020.
