Artist: Erbriyon Barrett (Cloud Cruiser)
Cloud for Greenville
GJ: How were you contacted to create this piece?
CC: The owner and I have known each other for some time, and we’ve always thought it would be cool to do a mural on that wall, especially in a style that hasn’t been seen much around Greenville. It was always something planned that finally happened when the building was purchased by Hyped Experience.
GJ: What is the inspiration for this piece?
CC: Well, my style is this abstract look that I always involve when I’m making art. I’ve been trying new ways to make it more eye-catching and stick out, which is why it has the illusion that it’s coming out of the frame in the mural. The green color represents Greenville. Hopefully, the mural can be something to make the community open to investing in more different-looking art murals around the city.
GJ: What type of paint did you use to create the mural?
CC: I used roll-on paint from Home Depot and Montana spray paint that I got from local art stores around me, including Suburban Paint in Greenville.
GJ: How long did it take to create, and what was the creation process like?
CC: The goal was three days, but it was set back because I ran out of paint and I had to go out of town to get more. It also rained one of the days I was there, which also delayed my time. It took four days in total.
GJ: What is your favorite part of the piece and why?
CC: The colors of the different shades of green I used. They really stick out whenever you take pictures of the mural. It’s just so vibrant. I really fell in love with the color scheme. I’m pretty sure others will as well when they visit the mural.
GJ: When was it completed?
CC: Feb. 28, 2021
