A Taste of the Islands
GJ: How were you contacted to create this piece?
JD: Cynthia Williams, who owns the coffee shop there, contacted me.
GJ: What is the inspiration for this piece?
JD: She showed me the outside wall, and when I looked at it, I envisioned it [the mural] on the wall, and I recreated what I saw.
GJ: What type of paint did you use to create the mural?
JD: A flex seasonal paint.
GJ: How long did it take to create? What was the creation process like?
JD: About five weeks due to the weather. To create is the joy of my life. It is easy for me. I created my first mural when I was just 12 years old.
GJ: What is your favorite part of the piece and why?
JD: The last thing I painted [on the mural] was a bottle of Corona with 2020 on the label as a tribute to those who passed due to the virus this year.
GJ: When was it completed?
JD: In May 2020.
It is located at Chicora Alley, 117 N. Poinsett Hwy. in Travelers Rest.
