One of Greenville County’s largest privately owned art collections will be housed at the soon-to-be-opened AC Hotel.
According to a news release, the AC Hotel by Marriott Greenville Downtown will celebrate its hometown by featuring more than 100 pieces of art by 30 local artists. The robust collection will include works by emerging and established artists in a range of mediums and styles, and nearly every piece in the collection is commissioned especially for the hotel.
“Greenville is emerging as a top destination for art and design, and we are proud to not only contribute to the city’s cultural offerings but also directly support our local artists,” said D.J. Rama, president and chief executive officer of Auro Hotels, which owns the AC Hotel. “As one of the hotel’s pillars, we focused on curating this inspiring art collection, and we are thrilled to showcase talented local artists with the community and our guests to enjoy.”
Auro Hotels worked closely with Metropolitan Art Council’s executive director, Alan Ethridge, to select the artists and collaborated with Art and Light Gallery to curate and install the diverse collection.
The collection will highlight the works of Andy Gambrell, Katie Walker, Jo Carol Mitchell-Rogers, Dorothy Shain, Teresa Roche and many others. A large sculpture by Avnish B. Godhani, an artist based in Rama’s hometown of Surat, India, will also be on display in the immersive rooftop space located on top of the hotel.
“With its spectrum of original works and artists, the collection at AC Hotel Greenville Downtown will be truly exceptional and further solidify the city’s art scene as one of the very best in the region,” said Roche, owner of Art and Light Gallery.
Owned and operated by Auro Hotels, AC Hotel Greenville Downtown will feature 196 guest rooms, nearly 29,000 square feet of meeting and event space, multiple dining concepts and Juniper, a 16,000 square foot, all-season rooftop space. The hotel is scheduled to open early spring 2021 and is part of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.
