A new affordable housing complex for seniors recently opened off Woodruff Road in Greenville.
Southpointe Senior Residences contains 90 apartment units for low- and moderate-income renters over the age of 55. The units specifically target seniors earning 20% to 80% of the area median income.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new apartment complex at 100 Southpointe Drive was held June 25.
Lowcountry Housing Communities partnered with the Greenville Housing Fund to develop the $16.5 million project. Other project partners included South Carolina Housing, the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority and The Greenville Housing Authority.

South Carolina Housing awarded a 9% low income housing tax credit to Southpointe Senior in 2021. A $500,000 loan was provided to the project by the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority. In addition, The Greenville Housing Authority secured 20 project-based vouchers for the project.
Joe Smith, executive director of the GCRA, said Southpointe Senior is an example of how different types of financing can be used to create an affordable housing product that supports seniors in the local community.
Construction of Southpointe Senior kicked off in November 2024. Greenville-based Creative Builders served as the general contractor for the project.
The three-story apartment building consists of 40 one-bedroom apartments and 50 two-bedroom apartments. Residents at Southpointe Senior have access to various amenities including business center, a community room and a fitness center.
“I’m very grateful to be here, and I landed very softly,” said Judy Gannon, a resident at Southpointe Senior. “I’m feeling more at peace here than I have had in a long time.”
