With Greenville’s rising numbers of residents and visitors, the police department has worked to adjust the nature of policing to the community’s changing needs.
The 126,000 square-foot building at 204 Halton Road, if approved for purchase, would house the city police and fire departments along with the municipal court, with room to grow. It has 1,000 parking spaces, sits on 12 acres and is fraction of the age of the Law Enforcement Center the city shares with the county, city officials said Friday.
"This is the type of group that we in law enforcement love to partner with because they are trying to be a solution to a problem," said Greenville Police Chief Howie Thompson.
“I’m a realist. I know that there are some segments of the community that don’t trust the police. You can’t brush that off.” - GPD Chief Howie Thompson.
