The calendar has confirmed what we already knew: Long, steamy summer days have arrived. Who says summer is just for kids, though? We are here with a few ideas for fun that will entertain both the bigs and the littles.
Tacos, beer, green space. What’s not to love about Hampton Station and its kid-friendly environment? Enjoy a cold Black Gose, grab a pork belly taco, and let the kids run free. Or get dirty with the offspring after dinner and tackle a pottery class together.
Bonus: A little ax-throwing for the big kids.

Explore this hidden gem with your kids and your better half. Easy trails take you on a winding wildlife adventure – birds, turtles, deer, ducks, and other critters. This summer, their Knee High Naturalist program will expose children ages 3 to 6 to different habitats, animals, and ecological processes. Plus, playgrounds, benches, and, yes, shade along the way make this an ideal way to spend a summer afternoon.
Bonus: Excellent bird watching – The National Audubon Society designated Lake Conestee Nature Park as an Important Bird Area of Global Significance.

There’s nothing like cooking breakfast or baking goodies in the kitchen with the kids. And it’s even better when they kind of know what they’re doing, right? From culinary camps to classes, Plate 108 will help your kiddos master basic cooking techniques this summer. Make chef-inspired recipes or stand by and observe your little ones having a ball in the kitchen with their friends.
Bonus: The fun isn’t just for kids. Schedule a date night on July 12th and learn to make a NY strip steak with caramelized shallots and brown sugar butter.
108 E. Poinsett St., Greer
Do you feel the need for speed? This is a great summer escape for a few reasons – it’s inside and it has a little something for everyone. Did we mention it’s inside? Oh yeah. Whether it’s your first time or you hit the track regularly, fast is fun.
Bonus: Home to the MegaTrack, the longest indoor track in the Southeast.
961 Berry Shoals Road, Duncan
My friend just spent an afternoon with her girls here and proclaimed it the best time ever. That’s a pretty good endorsement! Food, escape rooms, and a little Skee-Ball action – a cool way to spend a hot day. And sign your kids up for the national Kids Bowl Free program, and they’ll receive two free bowling games each weekday through the end of August!
Bonus: Adult beverages, high-def TVs, and live music every other Saturday this summer.

Runway Park gives us a convenient place for our kids to watch planes land, learn about aviation, and become inspired about the possibilities. An aviation-themed playground and a cross-section of a Boeing 737 fuselage are just a few things to explore. Adjacent to the park is the Military History Museum with touch tables for kids to bring history to life. All around, a unique summer educational experience that feels completely different from a classroom.
Bonus: The world’s best burger is steps away at Runway Cafe.
