Henry Horowitz, president emeritus and founder of Artisphere presented by TD Bank, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Henry McMaster at the festival’s Opening Night Gala Thursday night.

The Order of the Palmetto is considered the highest civilian honor in the State of South Carolina and recognizes a person’s extraordinary lifetime service and achievements of national or statewide significance. Horowitz received the award for his contributions to the state of South Carolina through Artisphere and other statewide arts organizations.

“Henry is a visionary leader and advocate for the arts in the Upstate and across the state,” said David Lominack, S.C. market president for TD Bank in a statement. “Because of his foresight and passion, the arts are now more accessible, and we all celebrate a more vibrant arts culture in the state. After all, when the arts thrive, so too does a community’s growth and prosperity.”

Horowitz has over 45 years of extensive experience in management of start-ups and established firms in the medical and retail real estate industry. In addition to his work in the real estate industry, he is passionate about serving his state and local community through his volunteerism on numerous community boards. Horowitz, currently serves as the Chairman of the South Carolina State Arts Commission Board of Directors.

“I applaud Henry Horowitz for his vision in establishing, what is now, a nationally recognized arts festival in Greenville,” Artisphere 2019 President of the Board Ed Zeigler said in a statement. “Henry’s passion and persistence have resulted in 15 years of phenomenal results that multiply exponentially. Artisphere draws tens of thousands of visitors to the city, bolstering the local economy in the best possible manner, setting up Greenville as a magnet for cultural activity. We extend our highest praise and gratitude to Henry for this gift.”
