Clemson University’s online graduate education program was ranked first in the nation by U.S. News & World Report on its 2019 Best Online Programs list for the second year in a row.

Clemson has appeared high in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings before — in September the outlet ranked Clemson in the top 25 public schools for 2019.

Clemson’s 18-month online Master of Education: Teaching and Learning program costs about $14,000 to complete.

Students can choose from three areas of focus — science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM); experiential learning for early childhood; or instructional coaching.

“Our college sees the value of online programs that allow busy education professionals to further their careers, so we are once again thrilled by this recognition,” said Dr. George J. Petersen, founding dean of the college of education, in a statement. “We are committed to providing graduate programs that provide a best-in-class education experience. This recognition is proof of the hard work our faculty and staff put into making this a reality for our students.”

Also listed by U.S. News & World Report in its online rankings is Anderson University, which ranked first in South Carolina and 12th nationally for its online graduate criminal justice program.

The program is a hybrid one — students take most of their courses online but spend two days a month at the university’s Center of Excellence, which also houses Anderson County’s Emergency Operations Center.

Ten to 20 students are admitted to the program each fall, and the total cost of the degree — including books and fees — is $18,000.

“Innovation is one of the hallmarks of the educational experience at Anderson University, and we’re proud of the strides we’ve made in positioning AU as a national leader in delivering quality programs online,” said Dr. Evans P. Whitaker, president of Anderson University, in a statement.

The rankings were scored on engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, services and technologies, and student excellence.
