Greenville County Schools announced all schools and offices are closed Thursday after a tropical storm warning, flash flood watch, and flood advisory were issued for Greenville just before 4 a.m.
In a released statement, the district’s Inclement Conditions Evaluation team reported heavy rain, standing water, and scattered debris on Upstate roads at about 5 a.m.
“While we prefer to make decisions about cancellations the evening prior to school, we delayed until this morning because were not under a Tropical Storm Alert last night,” spokesperson Beth Brotherton said in a released statement. “We did not want to put students and staff at risk, but wanted to make the best possible decision with the most accurate and up to date information realizing the hardship to families when schools close.”
The district will make up the missed day on April 22.
