Greer CPW prepares for outages ahead of Hurricane Florence

National Hurricane Center

Greer CPW has requested all of its contractors remain in its coverage area until after Hurricane Florence clears, according to a released statement Wednesday evening.

The agency said there are 40 electric department personnel able to respond to outages and all equipment has been fueled and stocked in preparation for the storm.

Greer CPW is planning to release 4-5 inches of water from Lake Cunningham within the next day ahead of heavy rainfall. Officials have said they are communicating with the Startex-Jackson Duncan Water District, which is downstream where the excess water will go.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, Hurricane Florence is a Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 105 miles per hour. The National Hurricane Center is warning of life-threatening storm surge and “catastrophic flash flooding” across the Carolinas.

Greer CPW electric customers can report outages at 864-848-5500 or by logging into their CPW account and hitting “report outage.”
