Furman University golfers Alice Chen and Taylor Totland, both U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball champions, participated in the Celebration of Champions event on June 12, which honored the winners of each of the 2017 USGA championships.

Chen, a senior on the 2017-18 Furman women’s golf roster, and Totland, a 2017 Furman alumna, were each paired off into two-player mixed teams for the event two days before the beginning of the U.S. Open hosted by Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, N.Y. The champions worked their way through holes 10-13 of Shinnecock Hills.

Totland and partner Frankie Capan tied as the winners with duo Judith Kyrinis and Matt Parziale with a two-over 17 score. The strong winds at Shinnecock Hills made the course a more difficult feat on Tuesday.

Retired pro golfer Jack Nicklaus and defending U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka welcomed the participants at the event.

The U.S. Open began on Thursday, June 14, and will conclude Monday, June 18.
