Attention Greenville motorists: It might be a good idea to avoid Interstate 85 and Woodruff Road near the I-385 interchange for the next three nights.

Detours will begin each night at 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday so workers can erect girders for a new bridge over I-85 as a part of the 85/385 Gateway Project.

The detour will reroute traffic off of I-85 northbound at Exit 51. This traffic will be routed to Exit 51-B to I-385 southbound, then exit at Woodruff Road, cross the Woodruff Road bridge, and return to I-385 northbound. From this point, drivers will be able to take Exit 36-A to I-85 northbound.

Traffic signals along Woodruff Road at the ramps that provide access to and from I-385 will be controlled by the state Highway Patrol.

On Tuesday night, lanes will be closed and the Highway Patrol will conduct pacing operations on I-85 southbound to assist with the first night’s girder erection.

On Wednesday night, a double left-hand lane closure and detour of I-85 southbound will be needed to route traffic onto the I-85 southbound exit and entrance lanes.
