Tim Scott is nuts for Clemson, places bet against Alabama senator

It’s a sad fact that when it comes to the men who serve the great state of South Carolina in Congress, only one of them is a Clemson graduate, Rep. Jeff Duncan of the Third U.S. Congressional District.

While this may further fuel your anger at the men and women who serve on Capitol Hill — seriously, only one Clemson grad, no wonder Congress is a mess — U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, a Charleston Southern grad, is an honorary Tiger from here on out.

How so, you ask?

Today, Sen. Scott has announced that he has placed a wager with fellow U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) on the outcome of tonight’s College Playoff National Championship game. Not surprising, Scott is backing the Tigers.

You can read the release below:

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced a friendly wager on the College Playoff National Championship between the Clemson University Tigers and the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. If Crimson Tide wins, Senator Scott will deliver Cromer’s Peanuts to Shelby’s office. If the Tigers win, Senator Shelby will provide Preister’s Pecans to Scott’s office.

Senators Scott and Shelby issued the following statements:

“Led by Coach Swinney and Deshaun Watson, Clemson has had another amazing year,” Senator Scott said. “The good news – it’s about to get even better when they bring the National Championship home to Death Valley. Go Tigers!”

“I’m extremely proud of the Crimson Tide’s performance this season and look forward to this exciting match-up,” said Senator Shelby.  “I have no doubt that Coach Saban will have our team prepared and that he will lead the Tide to another National Championship victory.”

* The College Football Playoff National Championship game will take place tonight at 8:00 PM ET in Tampa, Florida.
