The Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has been named one of SportsEvents Magazine’s 2017 Readers’ Choice Award winners.
It is the fourth time in the past five years that the CVB has garnered the award. The organization was nominated after sports event professionals chose destinations and sports venues they believed showed creativity and professionalism.
“We are humbled to be selected again as a top sports destination by the readers of SportsEvents Magazine,” said Chris Jennings, executive vice president of the CVB, in a statement. “This shows the power of working together with our local schools, sports clubs, parks department and other (destination marketing organizations) to bring more tourism business to Spartanburg.”
Tourism had a more than $17 million impact on Spartanburg County in 2016, the CVB reported in November. That includes a record $13.1 million impact from the NFL Carolina Panthers training camp.
The county hosted the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Region Four Track and Field championship in July.
Spartanburg is also home to the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, two Division I college athletic programs — Wofford College and the University of South Carolina Upstate — and several other youth sports tournaments.
In February, Spartanburg will host the annual state Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel.
SportsEvents is a publication based in Alabama that helps sports event planners select locations for major games and tournaments.
