Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said a Greenville police officer has died after being shot multiple times while trying to serve a warrant in the Nicholtown area.

Miller said the suspect, who he said was a gang member, fled and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Miller would not identify the officer, saying he wanted to make sure the officer’s family and the police department was notified.

In a press conference Friday evening, the shooter was identified as Deante Mackey, 17.
