Authorities are investigating a possible homicide that happened today shortly after 7 a.m. near downtown Greenville.
Deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and officials from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are on the scene of a shooting that happened at 221 Crest Lane.
The victim is described as a black male.
Master Deputy Sam Cureton said investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the 33-year-old man’s death.
Cureton said deputies arrived on the scene at 7:13 a.m. after receiving a call that reported gunshots coming from a residence at 221A Crest Lane.By the time deputies got there, paramedics with Greenville County EMS were already there, and the victim had already been pronounced dead.
At 11:30 a.m., investigators were still on the scene and attempting to determine exactly what happened.
“When the 911 call came in the caller stated they heard gunshots, but at this time it is not clear if the victim has any gunshot wounds,” Cureton said. “The case is being treated as a homicide.”
Crest Lane is located between Cedar Lane Road and the Poinsett Highway, not far from the Salvation Army Rescue Mission.
